The line graph below compares spending on cars in four Asian countries, namely China, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia, over the period from 1995 to 2005.
Overall, China had the highest figures throughout the period. Vietnam and Indonesia experienced upward trends, with Indonesia showing the most dramatic growth, while Thailand fluctuated slightly and remained comparatively stable overall.
Turning to China and Vietnam, China remained the highest throughout the period. It started at around 79 million US dollars in 1995 to approximately 90 million in 1999, before declining slightly in 2003 and recovering by 2005. Meanwhile, Vietnam experienced a steady increase, rising from about 55 million in 1995 to around 75 million by 2005.
Regarding Thailand and Indonesia, Thailand showed slight fluctuations overall. It fell from around 58 million in 1997 to 50 million in 1999, before recovering to approximately 62 million by the end of the period. In contrast, Indonesia experienced the most dramatic growth, increasing from 30 million in 1995 to around 71 million in 2005, particularly after 2001.
