The pie chart depicts the difference between the proportion of food consumed by global consumers compared to two typical countries, China and India in 2008.
As can be seen from the chart, the most popular food was processed food in above two countries and in the world. On the other hand, nuts and seeds had the lowest consumption percentage compared to the remaining foods in India and the world. The same was true for animal food in China.
Among the four types of food, processed food accounted for about two-fifths of total global consumption, while it accounted for 34% in China and 39% in India. The next were vegetables and fruits, and their consumption ranked second in China and the world with a percentage of 32% and 29% respectively. However, in India, it was consumed 9% less than in China. Like the above foods, animal food was also rather popular. Its consumption accounted for about a quarter of the total consumption in India and the world with a percentage of 27% and 26% respectively. Besides, animal food favored less by Chinese with a proportion of 15%. The last was nuts and seeds, and its consumption accounted for 4% in the world and 11% in India, and ranked last compared to the three remaining foods. Unlike the global population and Indians, Chinese preferred nuts and seeds to animal food with a percentage of 19%.
