Looking from an overall perspective, what stands out from the graph is that there was a downward trend in China while the other three countries saw upward trends over the period in question.
Looking at the details, the index of applications demonstrated a gradual fall from just above 25,000 to around 20,000 between 2004 and 2005. After that, despite stability around just below 20,000, between 2006 and 2007, the number of applications declined to 15,000 by 2008. Regarding Japan, there was a dramatic growth from the middle of 10,000 and 15,000 to just above 25,000 during the period.
As for the USA, there was stability at just above 5,000. However, the index of applications in the USA increased to 10,000 in the last three years. Next, applications in Russia saw stability at just under 5,000 over the period in question.
