Overall, younger people were more likely to use the internet for entertainment purposes, such as online games and download music and videos, while older age groups tended to use it more for practical activities like email,travel reservations and online shopping.
Focusing on younger age groups,online gaming and download music and videos were particularly popular. Around 80% of teenagers played online games,and the figure fell steadily with age,dropping to below 30% among people in 40s and older. The similar pattern can be seen in download music and videos,which was used by over half percentage of teenagers but became far less common among older age groups.
Turning to older age groups,use email and travel reservations were used more frequently. Email use remained consistently high across adulthood,which around 93% of every groups. Travel reservations and online purchase have a steadily rising from relatively low among teenagers to much higher figures among older users.
