The chart below shows the percentage of Australian children in three age groups who participated in four leisure activities in 2012.
The bar chart illustrates the proportion of Australian children in three age groups participating in four leisure activities: watching TV, reading, art, and biking in 2012. Overall, watching TV stood out with consistently higher percentages in all three age groups of Australian children, whereas art exhibited relatively lower figures.
In 2012, the percentage of children aged 12 to 16 watching TV accounted for the peak of 100%, followed closely by those between the ages of 9 and 11, with approximately 95%, and the youngest age group, particularly 5 to 8 years old, with 90%. The proportion of young people taking part in riding the bikes was the second-highest figure; children in the 12-16 age set with 80%, followed by those in the 9-11 age range with 78%, and the youngest age bracket with only 62%.
Turning to the other data points, the percentage of young people participating in reading activities showed almost a similar figure in all three groups of Australian children, with just under 70%. Finally, the percentage of children taking part in art activities amounted to 60% in the youngest age group, while other ages (9 to 11 years old and 12 to 16 years old) saw relatively lower figures, with corresponding figures of 65% and 50%.
