The demonstrated chart presents data on the proportion of money spent by an average household across five different categories – housing, transport, food, health care, and other goods and services – over a 25-year period, from 2000 to 2025.
It can be concluded from the chart that health care, transport, and other goods and services all experienced a downward trend, whereas the opposite was true for food and housing. Additionally, housing accounted for the largest proportion of household expenditure by the end of the period.
Looking at the details, the proportions allocated to health care and other goods and services declined slightly, reaching 3% and 26% respectively in 2025. In contrast, spending on food increased steadily to 27% over the period. Meanwhile, the figure for transport fell significantly, halving from 20% in 2000 to just 10% in 2025.
By contrast, a gradual rise was observed in housing expenditure, which increased from 21% at the beginning of the period to 34% in 2025, making it the largest spending category overall.
