The bar chart shows how much electricity was produced and consumed in ten countries in 2014. Overall, the production of electricity was higher than the consumption in all the countries except for Germany, and China and the USA were the leading countries in both categories.
Electricity production and consumption were the highest in China, at 5,398 and 5,322 billion kWh respectively. This was followed by the United States, with the production of 4,099 billion kWh and the consumption of 3,866 billion kWh.
In Russia and Korea there were marginal differences between the production and consumption of electricity. While the figures for Russia were around 1,000 billion kWh, Korea produced and consumed almost half the corresponding figures for Russia, at about 450 billion kWh.
Germany was the only country that consumed more electricity than it produced, generating approximately 526 billion kWh and consuming about 582 billion kWh.
The remaining countries had consumption and production ranging between almost 936 and 455, with Japan ranking third and Brazil ranking eighth in both sectors.
