Initially, in 1982, there were more student from Malaysia that lived in Australia for education that sums up to an approximately 5000 students. However, The amount of students from Malaysia was later surpassed by the number of students coming from Hong Kong and Singapore in 2000.

There was a steady increase of the total number of Indonesian students from 1982 to around 1994. It then surged dramatically from 1994 to1998 and peaked at just above 25000 students. Furthermore, it fluctuated from 1998 and ended up at around 23000 students in 2000. The total students from Singapore residing in Australia rise from around 2000 students in 1990 and reached it’s highest amount in 2000 with an estimation of 19000 students. There was an intense soaring of the total students of Singapore between 1995 to 1996. Learners from Malaysia escalated steadily since 1982 to around 1992. The numbers then reach it’s culmination at around 18000 students in 1996.
