The bar chart illustrates changes in the expenditures of young people aged 18-20 on five different categories of goods between 2010 and 2014.
Overall, food consistently accounted for the largest share of expenditures throughout the period, whereas books recorded the lowest figures. In addition, some categories, such as food, smartphones, and toiletries experienced an upward trend, while others remained stable (clothes) or declined (books).
In detail, food amassed the largest amount of money in both years, rising from approximately 37 million dollars in 2010 and nearly 44 million in 2014. By contrast, books, which were the smallest category in 2010, fell twofold, from 10 million dollars in 2010 to only 5 in 2014. The amount of money youngsters spent on clothes remained stable at 25 million dollars. Both smartphones and toiletries increased: the latter rose from 20 million in 2010 to approximately 27 million in 2014, whereas the former saw more modest growth, from about 17 million dollars to 20 million over the following four years.
