The table presents data compiled by the United Nations, which illustrate the social and economic indicators of Canada, Japan, Peru and Zaire in 1994.
Overall, a clear direct correlation between the annual income per person and daily calorie supply per person may be seen in four countries with higher figures than the two indicators, including the aspects of life expectancy at birth and adult literacy rate. The mere numbers were provided by Peru and Zeire, whereas Japan and Canada outperformed them in all parameters.
In this year, Japan saw the highest figures, with an annual income of $15760 per person, while Canada’s income per person was slightly lower at $11100. However, in terms of daily calorie supply per person, Canada exceeded Japan by approximately 1000 calories, featuring Canadians consuming 3326 calories compared to Japan’s 2326. When it comes to adult literacy rates, both countries were equal, featuring 99%. Generally, with regard to life expectancy at birth, there was a difference of 2 years.
In contrast, Peru and Zaire recorded the lowest trends in annual income per capita, at $160 and $130, respectively. Life expectancy at birth in Peru was 51 years, compared to just 47 years in Zaire. Regarding daily energy intake per person, Peruvians consumed 200 kcal more than Zaireans, with averages of 1,927 kcal and 1,749 kcal, respectively. Additionally, the proportion of literate adults in Peru was twice that of Zaire.
