The table provides information on the average number of miles travelled per person in Turkey using eight different modes of transportation—walking, bicycle, car, bus, train, metro, taxi, and other—in the years 2000 and 2015.
Overall, the car was the most widely used mode of transport in both years, while the taxi remained the least preferred. While the distance traveled by car, train, metro, taxi, and other modes increased over the period, walking, bicycle, and bus travel saw a decline.
In 2000, the average distance traveled by car was 4,198 miles, which increased significantly to 5,806 miles in 2015. Walking and bus travel were also common in 2000, with figures of 265 and 440 miles, respectively, but both decreased to 227 and 275 miles in 2015. Bicycle use fell slightly from 61 to 51 miles.
On the other hand, train travel rose from 250 to 366 miles, and the use of the metro more than doubled, from 54 miles to 124. The distance covered by taxi, though relatively low, increased from 13 to 42 miles. Travel by other means also rose from 450 to 565 miles.
