The tables illustrate how much Fairtrade-labelled coffee and bananas were bought in 1999 and 2004 in five different countries of Europe.
Overall, sales of Fairtrade-labelled bananas were an increase in the UK, Switzerland, and Belgium; however, this figure showed a decrease in Sweden and Denmark from 1999 to 2004. In contrast, coffee sales increased in all five countries.
It is clear that people in the UK bought bananas far more than other four countries in both years, which increased from 15 to 47 million of euros from 1999 to 2004. While sales of bananas went up in Switzerland, from 1 to 5.5 million of euros, also in Belgium from 0.6 to 4 million of euros. On the contrary, the bananas were bought by Sweden and Denmark people decreased, from 1.8 to 1 and from 2 to 0.9 million of euros respectively.
If we turn to sales of coffee, we can see that there was a big change in the UK between 1999 and 2004, that increased from 1.5 to 20 million of euros, and ranked first in 2004. The coffee sales in Switzerland stood first in 1999 with 3 million of euros, and it doubled in 2004. In similarity, this amount went up in Denmark, Belgium, and Sweden and reached to 2, 1.7, and 1 million of euros respectively.
