The bar chart presents data on the water levels in reservoirs of six Australian cities from October 2009 to October 2010.
Overall, Canberra and Sydney had the highest percentages of water per maximum capacity in both years. Meanwhile, Perth saw the biggest increase over the one-year period.
In October 2009, almost 80% of Sydney’s reservoirs were full, the highest percentage of all the cities. Canberra followed closely, with just about 5% less. Eventually, Canberra surpassed Sydney in the next year, with almost all of its reservoirs filled, while the same figure for Sydney only saw a small rise to just over 80%.
Although Perth’s water level ranked fourth in 2009, at 40%, it dramatically increased to about 70% in the end. It also overtook Brisbane, which retained the same amount of water after one year, at just under 60%. In addition, the water level in Melbourne ended the period ranked fifth, at 40%. While Darwin was the only city that experienced a fall, it only had one-fourth of its water capacity in 2010.
