The line graph compares the proportion of products that Australians exported to Japan, the U.S., China, and India between 1990 and 2012.
Overall, while exportation rates in Japan and the USA decreased by varying degrees, the percentages for China and India saw an increase over the 22-year period. Remarkably, China was the country that registered by far the highest proportion of Australian exports in 2012.
In 1990, about 25% of the exports was allocated to Japan, followed by the USA with just over 10% of the products. Thereafter, both Japan’s and China’s percentages of exports gradually fell over the given period. To be precise, the proportion for Japan ended up at approximately 17%, remaining in second place, whereas the figure for the USA was almost one-thirds (around 6%) of that of Japan.
Regarding the other countries, Australians exported to India the least with only 2% of their products in 1990. Despite experiencing a gradual rise in the proportion, India still maintained fourth position among 4 surveyed countries. In stark contrast, starting as the third country in 1990, the figure for China surged and became the highest at the end of the period.
