Overall, Australian exports to Japan experienced a gradual decrease over the time frame, whereas the figures to US declined with some fluctuations. However, while the sharpest rise of export shares was noted in China, India also increased its value just with a slow progression.
Looking at the chart in more detail, making-up almost 27%, Japan led in Australian exports among the four nations in the initial year, whereas the US ranked second, with only 12%. Both countries experienced a considerable decline over a period of five years, decreasing to 20% in Japan and 8% in the USA. The former continued the declining trend, with approximately 16% shares of Australian exports. As for the latter, it peaked in 2000, returning back to its initial value of 16%. However, in other years, Australian exports to the USA gradually declined, accounting for approximately 6%.
With regard to other countries, India and China commenced with the same values (3%) in 1990. Australian exports shares to India remained constant in a ten year period, after which the figures started growing, peaking in 2010, with 7%. In the final year, there was noted a fall of 2%. As for China, the figures slowly increased up untill 2010, with 5%. Subsequently, China has experienced the dramatic increase with 28% in 2012.
