The graph illustrates the precentage of young adults in universities in Thailand, The Philipppines, Malaysia and Singapore from 1961 to 2011. Overall, the individuals aged 18-25 year olds who attend the higher education showing un upward trends over the fifty-year period. It was clear that Thailand and Singapore showed significant growth, while The Philippines and Malaysia experienced more gradual upward trends.
In 1961, Thailand had the highest proprotion, at around 24%, followed by Singapore at roughly 15%. Meanwhile The Philippines and Malaysia were much lower, at about 7% and 2% respectively. By 1971, Singapore rose sharply to approximately 30% and overtaking Thailand position, where Thailand experienced a slightly decline to around 21%. The Philippines, in 1971, remained stable whereas Malaysia had an increase, roughly to 10%.
Singapore declined dramatically, at about 25% in 1981, while Thailand slightly increase to around 22%. Malaysia and The Philippines showed n small increase, at about 12% and 9% respectively. By 1991, Singapore climbed significantly to around 35% and Thailand gradually declined to about 20%. Malaysia and The Philippines were steadily increase to around 15%. From 1991 to 2001, Thailand rose sharply, and become the highest proprotion at the end of preiode, accounted for around 43%, followed by Thailand in second rank, at around 40%, even though experienced a fluctuating. The Philippines gone up and reached a peak to around 19%, from 1991 to 2011. However, Malaysia remained stable, at about 15%, at the end of the period.
