The graph illustrates the percentage of 18-25 year olds in universities in four countries from 1961 to 2011. The starting percentages of countries are different. There is also difference in change after 1991.
The percentages of 18-25 year olds in universities in Thailand and Singapore in 1961 was significantly higher than Malaysia and Philippines. 15% and slightly under 25% in universities in Thailand and Singapore are 18-25 year olds, respectively. Malaysia and Philippines, on the other hand, Malaysia only have around 3% and Thailand have 7% of 18-25 year olds in their universities.
There was a differences in trend after 1991, that percentage in Thailand sharply increased from 20% in 1991 to approximately above 40% at the end of 2011, doubled the percentage. Whereas, those percentages in other countries didn’t saw any significant change. Between 1991 and 2011, Philippines grew around 5%. Similarly, Singapore increased around 5%. That percentage of Malaysia stood at the same level throughout the period.
Overall, the percentages of 18-25 year old in Thailand and Singapore are higher than those in Malaysia and Philippines. There was a big change in that percentage in Thailand between 1961 to 2011.
