Overall, it is clear that the proportion of old people will increase in all regions in 2050. Europe has the highest percentage in both years, while Africa has the lowest number.
In 2000, Europe have 22% of people aged 60 and over, which was the biggest figure among all regions. Asia was 12% and North America and Oceania both have 11%. Latin America was lower at 7%, and Africa was the smallest with only 5%. The world total in 2000 was 13%.
By 2050, all regions are expected to rise a lot. Europe will go up to 31%, still the highest. North America is predicted to increase sharply to 26%, and Asia also grow significantly to 28%. Oceania will reach 22%, while Latin America climb to 18%. Africa will increase to 12%, but it remain the low. The world total is expectto rise to 24%, which is almost double compar to 2000.
In conclusion, the ageing population will become more serious in every region, especially in Europe and Asia.
