The graph provide data and expected data on the proportion of people occupying in metropolitan area in the total world and in the five different regions in 1950, 2015, and 2050.
Overall, there was and will upward trends in the percentages of population in all five areas along with the whole world throughout given period. it is also worth mentioning that Latin America saw dramatic rise from 1950 to 2015 while North America had slight growth.
Looking at the details, Asia, at the beginning, Europa and North America accounted for the largest share, with around 46% and 64% respectively. whereas North America and Europa had a moderate rise in the proportion of urban population, Latin America saw a significant rise and reached 78% which was almost the same for North America in 2015. All three figures are excpected to continue to climb up, and reach to 78%, 84% and 87% in Europa, Latin America and North America respectively.
As for remaining areas, had and will have an growth in all areas along with the whole world. At the beginning, The world constituted 29% and will rise to 60% in 2050. The urban population of Africa and Asia formed the least proportion, with around 16%, and these figures for urban population expected remain their lowest places, with 51% and 54% respectively.
