The data illustrates the variation of sales in electric cars, in millions, across China, Europe, and the USA from 2016 to 2023. Overall, there was an upward trend in electric car sales across all the countries; however, China managed to dominate the industry in the majority of the years.
In the year of 2016, it was recorded as the lowest sales among all three nations recorded in the given timeline. From 2016 to 2018 China gradually increased in electric car sales from less than 250000 to 1 million in sales. Following which, its sales remained stable until 2020. Similarly, the sales across in Europe and the USA slightly rose until 2018 to reach almost 250000. A slight variation was evident in 2020, where the sales in Europe overtook that of China by around 250000.
However, following the year of 2020, even though the sales Europe and the USA rose steadily to reach almost 3.5 million and 1.5 million respectively, by 2023. China had an exponential increase in its sale, almost doubling the value of Europe in 2022 to reach 6 million sales. China recorded its highest sales in electric vehicles among all three nations in 2023 at a staggering 8 million electric cars sold.
