The bar chart compares information on the amount of employers who moved to Australia in four different occupations – accountant , cook, software engineer and computer programmer between 2009 and 2012.
Overall, it is clear that, accountants and software engineers consistently attracted far more migrants than cooks and computer programmers. While the figures for accountants fluctuated over the period, the number of software engineers showed a generally upward trend. By contrast, computer programmers remained the smallest group throughout.
In 2009, around 20 thousand accountants moved on to Australia, and this figure rose sharply to approximately 28 thousand in 2010, before declining to just over 20 thousand by 2012. A similar but less dramatic pattern can be seen among cooks, whose numbers increased slightly from about 15 thousand in 2009 to around 18 thousand in 2010, then fell back to roughly 15 thousand by the end of the period.
The number of software engineers increased steadily, rising from about 18 thousand in 2009 to just over 20 thousand in 2012, making it one of the most popular occupations among skilled migrants. In contrats, computer programmers accounted for the fewest migrants, with figures remaining low at around 3 to 5 thousand throughout the four years
