The bar chart illustrates global rate of illiteracy for last year broken down by both gender and area.
looking from an overall perspective, developed countries experienced the least illiteracy regardless of the gender as it was opposed to the regions in South Asia, Arab states and Sub-Saharan Africa accounting for the higher proportions comparing to others. it is also worth mentioning that Latin American and Caribbean states were counted with a moderate rate.
Looking at the details, we can see the highest illiteracy rate in three countries namely – Arab states above the proportion of 50 percentages among females while the figure for male rate was estimated under the 30%. Additionally, Sub-Saharan Africa was recorded with nearly 50% female illiteracy rate whilst the rate of the males was slightly above the 30%.
Exceptionally, it is apparent to notice that the least illiteracy proportion was conducted in developed countries with the minor difference between males and females, 1% and 2% respectively. In Latin American and Caribbean states, males accounted for 10 % while females was a little bit higher than them with a minor difference -11 %.
