The given chart compares the illiteracy rates by gender in different parts of the word last year.
Overall, South Asia recorded the highest percentage of illiteray rates in both genders while developed countries experienced the lowest. In addition, the female’s illiteracy rates percentages were higher than the male in all of the mentioned areas.
In terms of South Asia and Arab States, the majority of women were illiterate with the illiteracy rates were both above 50% while men’s were at around 32% and 29% respectively. In Sub-Saharan Africa, the figure for female illiteracy rates was around 50% and this latter for the latter was one-third.
On the other hand, developed countries registered the lowest illiteracy rates for both genders with percentages at approximately 3%. The figures for males and females who cound not read or write in Latin America/Caribean were the same, at one-in-tenth. Meanwhile, in East Asia/Oceania, the percentage of illiterate women was double compared to men’s, at 20% and at around 10% respectively.
