The chart depicts the number of Australian citizens in millions who use some kinds of social media platforms between the years from 2018 to 2019.
Overall, while an increase was observed in the usage of YouTube and WhatsApp, there was a decrease in Facebook from 2018 to 2020. In addition, the number of users of Twitter and Instagram remained relatively steady.
The usage of YouTube has increased gradually over the years from being slightly above 13 million to approximately 17 million while the amount of users of WhatsApp grew from almost 4 million to almost 10 million. Also, the number of users for Facebook dropped from just above 14 million to almost 10 million, whereas the numbers for Twitter and Instagram stayed almost unchanged, around 4 million.
For all years, YouTube was the most commonly used social media whereas Facebook was the second. Even though WhatsApp initially had the least amount of users in 2018, slightly less than 4 million, it overtook Twitter and Instagram with jumps throughout the following years.
