Overall, it is clear that Scotland’s exports to the Rest of the UK (UK) significantly outweighed those sent to the Rest of the World (ROW) in the majority of sectors. The largest value of exports was generated by the Business Services, Finance, Hotels & Restaurant Services category, primarily due to sales to the UK.
The Business Services. Finance, Hotels & Restaurant Services sector accounted for the highest overall export value, totaling £15.5 billion. Exports to the UK in this sector reached a considerable £13.8 billion, dwarfina the £1.7 billion exported to the ROW. A similar pattern is observed in Wholesale & Retail, where the UK bought £8.2 billion worth of goods, compared to only £1.1 billion by the ROW.
Onlv three industries recorded hiaher exports to the Rest of the World than to the UK These were Chemicals & Mineral Products (£9.5 billion to ROW vs. £5 billion to UK) Manufacture of Food & Drink (£5.8 billion to ROW vs. £4.4 billion to Uk), and Other Manufacturing (£5.9 billion to ROW vs. £1 billion to UK)
The remaining sectors–Metals, Mechanical & Transport Equipment, Electrical & Instrument Engineering, Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing & Mining, and Other Services–all exported more to the UK than to the ROW Specifically, Electrical & Instrument Engineering saw exports of £4 billion to the UK, which is nearly double the £2.3 billion sent to the ROW. In contrast, Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing & Mining and Other Services were the lowest exporting sectors overall, with values not exceeding £3 billion in either destination
