The bar char compares the number of males and females studying engineering at Australian universities between 1992 and 2012. Overall, the number of women increased significantly during the whole period, whereas the reverse was true for men. It is also worth noting that the figure for men remained the highest in all years shown.
Starting with females, the number of women studying at universities in Australia was the lowest in 1992, at 2000 before recording a two-fold rise, reaching 4000 in 2002. This trend was, however, continuously observed until 2012, with the figure for females peaking at 6000 at the end.
In stark contrast, the opposite trend was witnessed among males. Initially, the figure for men stood at 14000 in 1992, which was the highest, compared to that of women. Then, men exhibited a downward trend in terms of their numbers, falling by 2000 in 2002 from an initial share, which remained unchanged by 2012, at 12000.
