The bar chart illustrates the number of male and female students who were studying engineering at universities in Australia between 1992 and 2012 at 10-year intervals.
In general, it is clear that the male students followed a downward trend, while the female students had a tendency to increase. Moreover, the number of males engaged in Australian universities was always higher than females.
First of all, the male students, who tended to be relatively high, started at 16,000; however, the opposite trend was true for the women students, who hit the lowest point at 2,000 in 1992. The following year witnessed the male students starting to decline from 16,000 in 1992 to 12,000 in 2002, when the female students had doubled, rising from 2,000 to 4,000 during that time. Finally, it can be seen that there was a remained unchanged number of about 12,000 in the male students, and the women students continued to significantly increase to 6,000 in 2012.
