The bar chart illustrates the proportion of adults in different age groups in the UK who used the Internet on a daily basis between 2003 and 2006.
Overall, the younger age groups consistently recorded the highest proportions of daily Internet users, whereas those aged 65 and over had the lowest figures throughout the period. It is also clear that daily Internet use increased gradually across all age groups over the four years.
The 16-24 age group recorded the highest percentages, rising from 80% in 2003 to a peak of around 90% in 2005 before declining slightly to about 85% in 2006. Similarly, among adults aged 25-44, daily Internet usage increased steadily from approximately 70% to 80% over the four years. For those aged 45-54, the figure also showed consistent growth, climbing from around 55% in 2003 to nearly 70% in 2006.
A more significant increase can be observed in the 55-64 age group, where the percentage rose markedly from about 30% to approximately 55%. Although the 65+ group had the lowest Internet usage overall, it still experienced a considerable rise, increasing from roughly 5% in 2003 to nearly 20% by 2006.
