The bar chart below illustrates the number of males and females participating in numerous evening courses at an adult education center in 2009. The pie chart provides data on the age distribution of these course participants.
Overall, the drawing class was equally popular among men and women, whereas the language course had the biggest disparity in attendance. More elderly people took part in evening education than young people.
According to the bar illustration, a language program was the most popular among women, with 45 enrolling compared to only 20 males. In contrast, the painting course had the highest number of male participants, with only 15 females attending. Sculpture, the least popular course overall, was the only course with more male than female attendees.
The pie chart indicates that the majority of course participants, 68%, were aged 40 or over. The 50 or over age group had the largest portion, at 42%, while those aged 40–49 formed 26%. Younger adults who were between the ages of 30 and 39 made up only 16% of the participants.
