Overall, the percentage of different age-groups with part-time jobs has been increasing during two decades. Besides, students use more time to work per week and they spend more years to complete the degree.
In 1983, the 20-24 years old students was the largest proportion of students with part-time jobs at about 55%, while the students in 17-19 years old was the lowest at around 35%. The percentage of other age-groups was similar , showing nearly to 50%. The 25-29 age group was at 50%, the 30-39 age group was 48% and the 40 plus age group was 45%. The Australian students spent 5 hours on part-time jobs per week and 3 years to complete degree.
In 2003, the 20-24 age group was still the top of all students, at nearly 72%. The lowest proportion of students was 40 plus, with 54%. The rest of group was close to 60%, with about 63% in 17-19 age group, nearly 67% in 25-29 age group, and 60% in 30-39 age group. In this year, the students spent 14.4 hours on doing part-time jobs and 4 years to finish degree.
