The chart illustrates how many men took part in advanced development in IBM, Microsoft and Apple from 1980 to 2010.
Overall, it can be observed that the participation of male workers in senior development position was increasing overtime, with IBM displayed the most significant growth. It is also important to note that Apple used to lead the first in the first 10 years, but then end the period at the third rank.
Looking first at the first 10 years, in 1980, Apple had around 15% of its men worked as experienced development, and decreasing slightly to 13% 10 years later. Meanwhile, the Microsoft’s share followed a opposite trend, rising from about 8% to 11%. Although the figure for IBM started at a much lower mark, at roughly 1%, it grew rapidly to just under 13% and nearly met that for Apple.
Moving to the remaining years, from 1990 to 2010, the percentage of men in senior development positions kept rising in all three companies, though at different rates. Between 1990 and 2000, Apple showed a steady climb to about 25%, while Microsoft and IBM both increased more sharply, reaching around 20% and 30% respectively.
