The bar chart illustrates the proportion of males and females employed in six different sectors in the year 2020. Overall, it is evident that males were the dominant gender in the construction sector, while females constituted the majority in education. Furthermore, there were contrasting distributions of male and female workers in hospitality and engineering.
In detail, women made up a large proportion of workers in social services. The number of women employed in education was highest, reaching 75%, whereas the figure for men in this field was the lowest at approximately 25%. Similarly, female participation was also dominant in other social services like hospitality and retail, with proportions of 60% and around 55% respectively. In contrast, male participation in these sectors was lower, at 40% and 45% respectively.
On the other hand, male workers were more prevalent in science-related fields. Approximately 85% of people working in construction were male, which was the most significant proportion shown on the chart. This contrasts sharply with the data for female workers in this sector, who accounted for only about 15%. Similarly, the percentage of the male workforce in agriculture was 70%, indicating male dominance in this sector, while female employment in agriculture reached just over a third, at 30%. A notable observation is that the data for engineering showed the opposite trend to hospitality, with 60% men and 40% women employed in this sector.
