The bar chart illustrates the outcomes of a survey of people who go to theatres on the 12 factors annoying them during performances at the theatre. The factors can be categorised into two groups – noise and non-noise irritants and units are measured in percentage.
From an overall perspective, noise-related disturbances are more irritating to the spectators than non-noise irritants. Moreover, rustling sweet papers during performances irritates the most theatre-goers while it is armrest hogging annoying to the least extent.
Looking at the details, in terms of noise irritants, rustling sweet papers is the most annoying factor for nine-tenth of the theatre-goers according to the poll, which is followed by coughing which is the second with slightly over 75%. In comparison, it is whispering that is recognised as a distractor by 60% of the visitors. While mobile phones can annoy half of the people, snoozing is similar to this with 45%. Although 40% seem to be distracted by bleeps, snoring is the least noise-related annoyance.
On the other hand, when it comes to non-noise disturbances, slightly over 70% is distracted by arriving late to the theatre. Tall people can irritate two-fifth of the theatre-goers. Big hairdos is the same as flash photography with more or less 25, but armrest hogging is the lowest of the poll, noted by slightly over 20%.
