The bar chart shows the result of a survey of theater-goers on what irritates them during theater performances. The irritants are categorized into two groups namely noise irritants and non-noise irritants.
Overall, it is clear that the sound of rustling sweet papers is the most disturbing irritants for individuals at the theater while armrest hogging is the least annoying voice.
Looking at the details, in terms of noise-irritants, rustling sweet papers is the most annoying sound, affecting 80% of respondents. This is closely followed by coughing which is noted by over 75% of voting. Whispering is also recognized as a distractor by 60 % of the visitors. Additionally, while mobile phone notifications disturb half of the audience, sneezing is similarly recognized by approximately 50% of respondents. Although 40% seem to be distracted by bleeps, snoring is the least noise-related disturbance.
On the other hand, when it comes to non-noise disturbances, slightly over 70% is distracted by arriving late to the theatre. Tall people can irritate 30 % of the theatregoers. The impact of big hairdos is the same as flash photography with around 25 %. Finally, armrest hogging emerges as the least significant disturbance, impacting slightly over 20% of the audience.
