Clearly, agriculture was the dominant contributor for India’s national income, while government serivices became the main source of economic growth. Notably, industry experienced modest growth.
In 1960, the agriculture sector was the largest source of income, and accounted for approximately 63% of income. In contrast, industry and service sectors contributed to the least to national income, with around 15% and 16% respectively.
Furthermore, the agriculture sector’s contribution dramatically decreased to about 14% by 2000. Conversely, the total income from services grew significantly to about 63% by the end of the year. Meanwhile, industry saw a slight rise to about 25% in 1980, and the figure remained Stable untill 2000.
