On the contrary, the majority of people from the remaining continents have already resided in urban areas since 1950. In the world, only a small proportion of people lived in the cities in 1950 and nearly half of the population in 2007.
According to the chart, in Europe, Latin America Caribbean, and North America, around half of the population has already resided in the cities since 1950. Then in 2007, the percentage increased by approximately 30% to 72%, 76%, and 79%, respectively. Both in 1950 and 2007, the number was far less in Africa and Asia, accounted for only less than 50% of the total population.
Furthermore, the chart also presented projections for the population in urban areas by 2030. Cities will be heavily populated in Europe and America. Meanwhile, Africa and Asia are projected to have half of their population reside in cities by 2030.
