The given chart compares the percentage of people in various age groups using the Internet in Taiwan between 1998 and 2000.
Overall, young and middle-aged individuals witnessed a decrease in the rate of Internet users, while that for children and elderly saw a growth. It is clear that young people are most interested in using Internet, while the opposie was true for children.
Regarding young and middle-aged people, the majority of Taiwanese aged 16-30 got into the habit of using the Internet, with 53% in 1998, whereas the percentage of middle-aged people using social media was lower than that for young people about 12%. In 2000, both of these groups saw a gradual decrease in the proportion of individuals using the Internet to 44% and 37% respectively.
Turning to the remaining age groups, social media was unpopular among children and elderly in Taiwan. Between 1998 and 2000, the rate of children who used the Internet saw a slight growth from 2% to 9%. Similarly, people aged 50 or more experienced the slight growth in proportion of the Internet users, from 4% to 10% in the same period.
