The bar chart compares the usage of the Internet in Taiwan between 1998 and 2000, divided by age bracket.
It is noticeable that the Internet enjoyed widespread popularity among people aged between 16 and 50 years old.
While there is a fall in the usage of the Internet among the aforementioned groups throughout the period shown, the remaining ones saw a different pattern.
By far the most common cohort who utilized the Internet, people aged between 16-30 years old accounted for 53% of Internet usage in 1998. The figure for this group, however, witnessed a considerable decrease in the next 2 years: 1999 and 2000, down to 45% and 44% respectively. Standing at 41% in 1998, people at the age of between 31-50 was second in terms of popularity. Also, there was a slight drop in the pattern of this group in the next couple years, settling at 37% in 2000.
Regarding the remaining groups, the Internet was only accessed at the rates of 2% and 4% by juveniles under 15 and mature people above 50 years old in 1998, respectively. Nevertheless, in 2000, the figure for the former group more or less doubled, at 9%, and the latter one grew by 6%, at 10%.
