The provided line graphs reveal details regarding location and age of population globally from 1950 to 2020.
Overall, what stands out is that, albeit to fluctuations and varying degrees, there was an increase in both trends. Of particular note is that, total amount of urban and rural population experienced a rapid growth throughout the given period.
Looking at the former line graph first, it’s evident that, in 1950, there was 11% of people lived in urban and rural place overall, which 7% of them accounted for a former group and 4% for a later group. After a noticeable increase to 19% in total, by 1970, 5% of them accounted for rural category and 13% for urban areas. While the number of rural population remained relatively stable onwards, there was an increase in total amount of people for 28% by 2000, accounting 90% of them for urban places. After experiencing a period of gradual rise, the total amount stood at 39% in 2020, while 25% of them lived in urban areas.
Regarding the latter line graph, similar pattern was observed as while the percentage share for 15-65 age group increased sharply, other two categories remained relatively unchanged. In 1950, the number of those who are under 15 stood at 6%, while this number remained as stable until 1960, showing the same percentage, it skyrocketed until 2020 and reached a peak of just below 33%. When it comes to the people from under 15 age group, the number of these was 3% in 1950, after which it increased slightly to 5% and declined to 4% by 1970. Despite some fluctuations, it remained relatively unchanged onwards. Similarly, in 1950, the number of older ones who are older 65 stood at 3%, it decreased to 2% in 1960 and after recovering minimally to 4% by 1970, it stayed relatively stable until 2020.
