From an overall perspective, it is evident that the number of people who lived alone increased in all age groups during this period. However, older people had higher proportion compared to the other age groups especially in the latter year.
In 1850, only small proportion of people lived alone. Around 2% to 3% of people aged between 37 to 64 lived by themselves. Moreover, in 1900, the figure increased slightly, around 3.5% of people aged 55-64 lived alone which was the highest among all groups.
In addition, in 1950, around 3% to 9% of people aged between 27 to 64 lived alone, whereas below 2% lived alone age group 17 to 26. Lastly, in 2000, the number increased significantly. Nearly 17% of people aged 55-64 lived alone. Around 13%, 8%, and 7% of those aged group 47-54, 27-36, and 34-46 lived by themselves respectively, while the youngest group reached about 5%.
