Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that while popular music was the favourite music event among the 15-24, 25-34, and 35-44 age group, it was least preferred by the people aged 45-54, and over 55. Additionally, the figure for classical music events was relatively low in all age groups.
In 2006, the percentage of people aged 15-24 participating in popular music events was the greatest, accounting for 38%, followed by those who were 35-44 years old with 33%. In contrast, the figure for ages 35-44 attending opera music events stood at 25%, 12% higher than that of ages 15-24. Moreover, in the same year, the data for classical music events engaged by age groups 15-24 and 35-44 reached at the same rate, at 11%, which was 3% higher than that of ages 25-34. Furthermore, the percentage of people aged 25-44 participating in popular music events was 27%, in comparison with 14% of opera events.
Moreover, the proportion of people around 45-54 years old engaging in classical music events was 2% higher than that of people over 55 years old, which recorded 8% in 2006. In addition, the data for ages 45-54 attending popular music events stood at 13%, 8% higher than that of age 55 plus. Conversely, the proportion of people aged 45-54 attending opera music events was the same as people over 55 years old.
