The bar chart gives information about what proportion of Australian people, categorized by their ages, got involved in three different music events, namely classical, opera and popular, in 2006.
Overall, popular music events were the most common option for people belonging to the 15-44 age bracket, while the older section of the population (45-54 and 55+) preferred attending opera events. Notably, classical music was the least common music genre in all age categories.
In detail, the most preferred music genre was popular for those aged between 15 and 44; ranking second was opera, and classical music lagged behind. Specifically, about 38% of people aged 15-24 took part in popular music events, followed distantly by opera and classical music with the respective figures of approximately 13% and 11%. As for people aged 25-34, around 27% attended popular music events. Opera comes next with 14%, and classical music events close the list at 8%. Regarding the 35-44 age group, at the top of the chart was popular music concerts, making up roughly 33%, considerably higher than opera, which a quarter of people took part in, while classical events trailed behind, constituting 11%.
In contrast, the attendance of people in the 45-54 and 55+ age groups represented a different scenario. The share of people who attended opera events was dominant in these categories, accounting for 15% each. However, the share of individuals aged 45-54 who attended classical and popular events was approximately two times higher than that of people older than 55.
