The chart illustrates the number of people employed in five different job sectors in a region of Australia between 2001 and 2008.
Overall, it is clear that the sales sector employed the highest number of workers throughout the period, whereas farming had the lowest number of employees.
In 2001, sales was the largest employment sector, with around 160,000 workers. Accounting, computing and nursing followed, employing approximately 62,000, 60,000 and 58,000 people respectively. In contrast, farming employed the fewest workers, with just over 20,000 individuals.
By 2008, employment in the sales sector rose slightly to about 162,000, remaining the most popular job. The number of workers in computing and nursing also increased, reaching around 80,000 and 60,000 respectively. However, the accounting and farming sectors showed a decline in employment. Despite this decrease, accounting still employed roughly three times more people than farming in 2008.
