The exhibited bar chart compares the proportion of people falling out of the 65 and over age category in three different nations in 1980 and 2000, and predicts the percentage for 2030.
Overall, the percentage of elderly people in all countries showed an ascending trend and is predicted to decline over the period shown. As well as this, the UK will continue to be the country taking the lead in the proportion of the 65-and-over year-olds by 2030.
In 1980, the percentage of people aged 65 and over in the UK was the highest, taking up nearly one fourth of the total population at just over 20%. The figure was followed by the percentage for Germany, accounting for about one-fifth of the total percentage which was almost double the figure for Canada, at nearly 10%. By 2000, the proportion of elderly population was on the rise in all countries by more or less 5%.
Regarding the figures for 2030, the proportion of individuals falling into the 65 and over bracket in Canada is expected to show a slight decrease to around 2%. Similarly, the figures for Germany and the UK are predicted to fall, but far more significantly, plummeting to around 15% and 20%, correspondingly.
