The chart illustrates the proportion of people who consumed five portions of fruits and vegetables daily during the period from 2001 to 2008.
Overall, all three groups of people experienced significant fluctuations in daily consumers of five fruit and vegetable portions throughout the period. Notably, the consumption of female experienced a significant increase over the long period before falling at the end of the cycle. Despite this trend, the female group consistently accounted for the highest percentage throughout the entire period.
Turning first to the female group, starting at more than 20% in 2001, the figure witnessed a rapid escalation, reaching a peak of close to 40% in 2006. Due to this surge, the daily intake of five portions of fruits and vegetables among women continued to the top of the list, surpassing the other two groups during the period 2001-2006. After a long-term rise, there was a dramatic decline to 30% in 2008, yet it maintained its dominance in consumption percentage by the end of the period.
By contrast with the gradual trend of the female, the proportions of children saw a considerable fluctuation. This figure dropped to the lowest point of around 12% in 2003, followed by the upward trend to a high of just over 30% in 2005, then became more stable and eventually ended at 24%. Although it has an outperformance with male in the consumption in 2004 and 2005, looking at the overall picture, this group still lagged behind the male group. A similar but steady oscillation is evident in the male individuals, whose figure alternated within a range of around 20% to 28%.
