The bar chart illustrates the proportion of impoverished people living in rural areas for the years 1993 and 2002. The pie chart indicates the perentage of poverty levels in rural and urban areas.
Overall, the percentage of people living in rural areas who were poor declined steadily in 2002 as compared to 1993. Europe and Central Asia was the only rural area where the poverty share increased by a small percentage, whilst all other rural areas saw drop in poverty levels.
In 1993, the poverty levels in Europe and Central Asia and Latin America and Caribbean was same that is approximately 50% whereas in 2002, the former area experienced an increase of around 10% while the later decreased to 40%. All others, except East Asia and Pacific had observed a decline in share of poverty.
East Asia & Pacific was the only rural area which saw no change in the poverty levels, it remined just above 90% in both the years. Rural area poverty in 2002 was 76% that means the percentage of poverty was higher in 1993 beacuse rural area poverty has declined overall in 2002.
