The bar graph illustrates the area of forest logged in the Southwest region, while the table shows the number of forest-dwelling species in the same area. Overall, while the logged area showed an upward trend during the period, the population of all animals declined.
To begin, the acreage of logged began at 75,000 in 1990, which doubled to 150,000 by 2000. After this, the area increased significantly to reach 225,000 in 2010, representing a threefold increase from the initial 1990 figure.
In contrast, the number of forest-dwelling species revealed a downward trend. Birds were the most abundant species in 1998, though their numbers fell over the decade. All species experienced a decline, especially mammals, whose number dropped to 7 in 2008, half of the 1998 figure, making theme the least numerous of the three groups. While birds remained the most numerous species throughout the period despite their decline, the number of amphibians also fell steadily, starting at 15 and ending at 9.
