The bar chart illustrates the proportion of university staff members in the faculties of a university in the year 2012. The data is classified as men and women, with 7 main faculties namely Arts, Astronomy, History, Engineering, Law, Medicine and Science.
Overall, it can be broadly seen that the faculty of Engineering has the most male staff members in a university while female staff are at its lowest percentage in the same sector. Moreover, most academic female members are in the faculty of Education.
First, among male employees, engineers made up an enormous 90% of the workforce, followed by astronomy and science with a combined 65%. Law and medicine accounted for 60% and 50% of the total, respectively.History came in last with 25%, after Arts with more or less 40%. It’s intriguing to note that there were roughly twice as many men working in education as in medicine.
Conversely, the majority of women were found in the history sector, making up a remarkable 70% of the total, while the arts sector only accounted for 58%. The third most female-populated is the Medicine sector, which takes up around 50%. On the other hand, engineering, which employed the most men, had the lowest percentage of women (10%). The other 2 sectors, Astronomy and Science took up 37% and 35% respectively.
