From 1987 to 1999, Chinese vehicle ownership slightly increased. It can be seen that in 1987, possessing a vehicle was not common , with less than 500 vehicles per thousand people . A significant growth of vehicle possession is noticeable between 1995 and 1999. In that period of time, around 1000 vehicles were owned per thousand people. The number of vehicle ownership in 1999 rose more than 2000 compared to that in 1995.
