The bar chart and graph show how many men and women attended the Olympics between 1924 and 2014.
At first glance, the number of both genders who took part in the event from it’s began constantly risen dramatically over the years, and the number of men seems to be higher than women.
Comparing the number of male athletes who participated in the Olympics since it began in 1952, there were 3000 men and around 4500 men, respectively, increasing to nearly 1500 participants in 1952. Its number continued to rise to around 5200 men in 1984 and hit its peak in 2012 with approximately 6000 men.
Turning to the female athletes, only 100 women attended the Olympics in 1924, but that number went up sharply to 400 women in 1952. In 1984, there was a fourth-fold increase in the number of female athletes—about 1600 women. The number still rose to roughly 5000 women in 2012; however, the number of men still overwhelmed the women.
